Project Assistant

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Project Assistant provides office administration support for a projectThe Assistant will support project managers based overseas who travel frequently to YaoundéWhen project managers are in Yaoundé, the assistant will arrange meetings and provide interpretation, among other tasks. In the absence of the project managers, the Assistant will represent the project and report regularly to the Project Manager (main). Communication is done by phone, skype, or email.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION

Higher education preferred in one of the following: Public Administration, Business, Law, English or related fields.

B. PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE

  1. Experience providing translation and interpretation support in English and French
  2. Experience in office management and administrative support
  3. At least three years general office environment activities
  4. Experience in teaching or developing training materials
  5. Experience in giving written and oral presentations or briefings
  6. Experience in summarizing information as a result of fact gathering, and expressing the summary orally and in writing
  7. Experience in working with government officials

C. LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Fluency in English and French is critical, the assistant must have a strong oral and verbal command of these language that will allow him / her to provide accurate interpretation during meetings and when required, workshops and on-the-job training sessions. The project assistant will also be called on to quickly turn-around translation requests. The assistant must be able to read write reports in English.

  3. Computer literacy in Microsoft PowerPoint, excel, and Word
  4. Time management skills, and the ability to set and meet deadlines
  5. Ability to prepare correspondence as required
  6. Ability to arrange workshops/meetings
  7. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of officials in local and foreign governments

E. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS/OUTPUTS

  1. Prepare accurate, written reports on a regular basis on multiple projects
  2. Represent the project when project managers are not in-country
  3. Co-ordinate meetings and workshops
  4. Record incoming and outgoing documentation, email and telephone contacts, and maintain officials at all levels
  5. Assist with travel and accommodation arrangements, if needed
