Job Title: Health and Nutrition Officer

Dept/Location: Bertoua /Ngaoundere – Cameroon

Reports To: Project Manager

Introduction

Nascent Solutions, Inc. is an international humanitarian and development non-profit organization founded in 2004. The mission of the organization is to build capacity for vulnerable people, especially women and youth in rural Africa for self-sufficiency.

Nascent Solutions is seeking a suitably qualified Health and Nutrition Specialist to support the implementation of a UNHCR funded program designed to prevent Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) among refugee populations in the Adamaoua and East region of Cameroon.  The Health and Nutrition Specialist will provide technical input and support all health and nutrition activities

Specific areas of responsibility include:

1. Work with partner organizations and other consultants to develop a health and nutrition curriculum and training materials
2. Provide health care services to beneficiaries and conduct follow visits
3. Prepare referrals for technical health services
4. Liaise with other service providers to reduce duplication
5. Identify and train community health volunteers  to support project activities
6. Work with the logistics officer to procure appropriate weighing equipment and supplies related to health and nutrition.
7. Plan activities relative to distributing health supplies and supplements as needed learning
8. Work closely with M&E officer and/or consultant to conduct a baseline survey and intermittent assessments  of health and nutrition, activities and assess health
9. Plan sensitization campaigns to inform beneficiaries about  good hygiene practices

Qualifications:

1. Master degree in Health and Nutrition, Public Health or related field
2. At least five years in Health and Nutrition, MCH
3. Experience working with NGO and Health systems in Cameroon

Attributes and Skills:

1. Exceptional skills in capacity-building and training community level health workers
2. In-depth knowledge of health and nutrition issues
3. Ability to travel at least 75% of the time
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills with proficiency in English and French and Pidgin English
5. Strong ability to think and plan strategically
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, as well as experience in data analysis
