The U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) has an opening for a Housekeeper.

This position is located in Yaounde.

Position: House Manager

Closing Date: August 5, 2015 at 16:00

Work Hours:  Full time 54 hours/week

BASIC FUNCTION FOR THE HOUSEKEEPER POSITION

Incumbent serves as Housekeeper at the official residence of the Deputy Chief of Mission and is responsible for making sure all assigned areas of the residence are clean, neat, and tidy.  This includes any indoor household cleaning and organizing assigned tasks, and may regularly include cleaning "projects" such as vacuuming, dusting, laundry, mopping and waxing floors, changing and laundering linen, and cleaning windows and furniture.  Incumbent will also be responsible for cooking or food preparation.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities for Housekeeper

Cleans rooms, restrooms, corridors, stairways, and other residence areas so that health standards are met. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers. Empties wastebaskets, empties and cleans ashtrays, and transports other trash and waste to disposal areas. Purchases or orders groceries and household supplies to keep kitchens stocked, and records expenditures. Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and/or polishes floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. Dusts and polishes furniture and equipment. Keeps storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy. Polishes silver accessories and metalwork such as fixtures and fittings. Removes debris from driveways, garages, and swimming pool areas. Sorts clothing and other articles, loads washing machines, and irons and folds dried items. Sorts, counts, and marks clean linens, and stores them in linen closets. Washes windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary. Disinfects equipment and supplies, using germicides or steam-operated sterilizers. Hangs draperies, and dusts window blinds. Plans menus, and cooks and serves meals and refreshments following employer's instructions or own methods. Takes care of pets by grooming, exercising, and/or feeding them. Washes dishes and cleans kitchens, cooking utensils, and silverware. Answers telephone calls and doorbells. Perform other duties as assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education:

Completion of High School (GCE “A” level, Baccalauréat or equivalent) is required.

Experience: 

At least two years of experience as Housekeeper in an official residence, an international organization or a large local institution is required.

Language: 

Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English and French are required and will be tested.

Job Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Must be knowledgeable in cleaning as well as in the use of cleaning supplies and equipment.  Must be able to communicate clearly; must be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds; must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours). Job knowledge/skills/abilities may be tested.

The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a security clearance.
