CLINTON HEALTH ACCESS INITIATIVE

Recruitment of a Pool of Mentors for Maternal & Neonatal Health(MNH) in Center and East Region

The Clinton Health Access Initiative(CHAI) is supporting the Government of Cameroon to implement the MNH Mentoring Program aimed at helping to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. CHAI is seeking skilled, very experienced including recently retired, highly motivated and flexible midwivess or doctors with significant experience in obstetrics to support the development of a pool of skilled mentors in the Centre and East regions of Cameroon. The Mentors will be health professionals living in  or close to the health districts listed below.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MENTORS

  1. Conduct baseline facility and health workers assessment to identify MNH mentoring needs
  2. Conduct quarterly and final assessment knowledge and skill for each mentee
  3. Build close relationships with all responsible health facilities and mentees
  4. Develop mentoring action plan and schedules in collaboration with mentees and health center heads with specific time lines
  5. Conduct midwife/birth attendant mentoring according to the mentoring guideline using mentoring tools
  6. Provide on-site suppor to health staff on MNHq problems and management of complications
  7. Maintain a close relationship with a number of identified resource persons for referral and advise on challenging situations
  8. Prepare regular reports and submit to CHAI program team
  9. Support CHAI programmatic team in finalization of any technical documents on MNH implementation.

TIMEFRAME

Mentors will be expected to  provide support on a part time basis over about one year's period starting early February 2016

DUTY STATION

Districts of Centre(Akonolinga, Bafia, Biyem Assi, Cité Verte, Mbalmayo, Nanga Eboko, Ntui, Obala, Sa'a) and East region(Abong Mbang, Batouri, Bertoua, Doume, Ndelele)

REQUIRED SKILLS

Ideally, mentors should:

  1. Have Midwifery or Medicine qualification with significant experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology;
  2. Be in active(or recently retired) with at least 5 years of work experience in direct provision of maternity reproductive health services;
  3. Have extensive technical knowledge on providing MNH services in managing obstetric and neonatal complications;
  4. Have In-depth understanding of national and subnational guidelines and protocols for MNH;
  5. Have a strong inter-personal communications skills and ability to utilize basic teaching, mentoring, and coaching techniques;
  6. Demonstrate integrity and willingness to spend extended periods in remote settings, often with very limited support;
  7. Ideally, be resident in close proximity to mentoring sites;
  8. Have enough time to support mentoring activities without impeding on existing service delivery commitments;
  9. Demonstrate writing, communication and reporting skills.
