Information on the Position

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Section: Common Services (Property) 

Location: High Commission of Canada in Yaounde

Level: GS-04

Closing Date: 5:00PM on June 11th, 2015.

Expected Duration: Indeterminate

Salary: Monthly base salary of 191 200 Fcfa before taxes.  Additional benefits shall apply (Such as transportation, housing, 13th month bonus).

Area of Selection:

The competition is open to all Cameroonians and non-Cameroonians. When submitting their application, non-Cameroonians must clearly indicate that they have the legal right to reside and work in Cameroon. Applicants must meet all the essential qualifications and their application must be received by the closing date of the job opening.

Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Officer of the Mission, the Maintenance Technician shall be responsible for carrying out general repairs (carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity, painting, etc.) and functional maintenance tasks ( refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boiler operation, mechanical repairs, etc.) for all equipment and property belonging to the State or being rented.

1 - Essential Qualifications:

When applying, it shall be the candidate’s responsibility to clearly demonstrate in writing that they have all the essential qualifications (1) outlined below. Failure to do so, their application will simply be rejected without any further consideration.

Language Requirements:

  • The ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing), in English or French is a must.

Education:  

  • GCE Advanced Level or any professional qualification related to the job requirements, OR
  • an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a field related to the job requirement.

Work Experience:

At least five (5) years of recent and relevant work experience in a position related to maintenance.

The term recent is used to refer to experience acquired within the last 10 years.

2 – Evaluation Criteria

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of basic electricity operations
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing operations
  • Knowledge of basic painting operations
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of workplace safety rules

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate in an efficient and interactive manner (orally and in writing); 
  • Ability to maintain a good physical condition to work while standing for long hours and to work with heavy equipment, etc.
  • Ability to organize and plan tasks, develop a maintenance schedule and a work place

Personal Abilities:

  • Good sense of judgment; and
  • Integrity.

3 - Qualifications Considered as an Asset

Preference may be given to candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Relevant work experience within an Embassy, High Commission or an International Organization.

4 – Operational Requirements

  • willingness to work overtime, including on weekends and public holidays, with or without a prior notice period, depending on service requirements.
  • be able to do physical work such as moving furniture or lifting boxes.

5 - Conditions of Employment:

  • Obtain and preserve a reliability status. Applicants must meet this condition and maintain that status throughout the duration of the assignment.
  • possess a valid working permit (for non-citizens).
  • possess a valid driver’s license.
  • meet the requirements of the medical examination (compulsory).
